“We all know that Efcc and Yahoo are sworn enemies.” This fact was further buttressed as Operatives of the Benin Zonal Office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) arrested Akegor Godbless Omamuyorwi, a suspected Internet fraud kingpin.
According to a statement made by the EFCC, Omamuyorwi was nabbed at his palatial home in Ughelli, Delta State.
It claimed that the arrest of the 34-year-old Chief of Agbaro Community, was triggered by a petition from a bank following a complaint by a Canadian resident, who claimed that the sum of $390,950.34 was transferred to two different accounts in the same bank and suspected a scam.
Preliminary investigations have shown that Omamuyorvi was involved in the romance scam and presented himself to his victim as Mr Sheri Hunt, an oil worker in Milan, Italy.
He added: “He misled his’ lover ‘ victim with the impression he sent her a package but demanded money on the pretext of paying medical bills, legal fees and strategic fees.
In order to give further credence to his fraudulent activities to defraud his victim, he allegedly sent several emails from the Canadian Ambassador to Italy and the bank, persuading his victim to accept his request.
“The Commission sealed the Ughelli mansion and recovered two high-end cars with customized number plate from it.
“He has already made useful statements and will be brought to court once investigations have been completed.”
